TUESDAY, FIFTH WEEK OF LENT- YEAR-B

I Reading: Numbers 21: 4-9: If anyone is bitten and looks at the fiery serpent, he shall live.

Gospel: John 8: 21-30: When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He.

Man’s Tragic Failure to Understand the Light, Jn 8: 25-30

Man misunderstands Jesus and His claim to be the Light of the world.

1.     Man asks a basic question (v.25)

a.     Who is Jesus?

b.    Jesus’ reply: He is just who claims to be

2.     Man does not grasp that Jesus is God’s spokesman judge-the one who brought the message of the true God (v.26-27)

3.     Man does not grasp that Jesus is the Son of Man-the One who has to be lifted up (v.28)

4.     Man does not grasp that Jesus is the great “I am”-the Son of God Himself (v.28)

5.     Man does not grasp that Jesus is the One who God never let alone (v.29-30)

a.     God sent- was with

b.    Jesus pleased God always

6.     Conclusion: Many believed

Thought: Jesus’ first mission to earth was to proclaim the message of salvation (Rom 2:16) and the second mission to earth will be to judge people (Jn 5: 22; Acts 10:42).
