MONDAY, FIFTH WEEK OF LENT- YEAR-B
I Reading: Daniel 13:1-9.15-17.19-30.33-62: Have I to die, innocent as I am?
Gospel: John 8: 12-20: I am the light of the world.
Man’s Need: The Light of the World
Humankind has great need. He/she is not always aware of it, but the need is still there. Human is in darkness. Therefore, human’s great need is to see “the Light of the world.”
1. Jesus made a great claim and promise (v.12-13)
a. The claim: the Light of the world
b. The promise: “Follow me and …”
c. The objection: By the Pharisees
2. Proof 1: Jesus’ great sense and knowledge of His origin and destiny (v.14)
a. He knew His origin and destiny
b. Men could not know
3. Proof 2: Man’s incompetence to judge (v.15-16)
a. Man judges by appearance
b. Jesus judges not by appearance but by God’s standards
4. Proof 3: The law’s testimony (v.17-18)
a. Jesus met the legal requirements
b. Jesus had two witnesses Himself and God
5. Proof 4: The Father’s presence within (v.19)
a. Jesus was mocked
b. The Father was in Him
6. Conclusion: The tragedy –He was rejected in the temple (v.20)
Thought: Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgement.” (Jn 7:24).
