THURSDAY- 32nd WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME –A
Gospel: Luke 17:20-25: The kingdom
of God is among you.
I Reading: Wisdom 7:22-8:1: Wisdom is
a reflection of the eternal light, untarnished mirror of God’s power.
The Coming Day of God’s Kingdom and
Jesus’ Return, Lk 17:20-37
The religionists asked when the kingdom of God was
going to come. The kingdom of God was the focus of Jesus’ preaching and
conversation. The Messiah had come and the kingdom of God was to be ushered in.
1. The coming of God’s kingdom (v.20-21)
a. it cannot be observed
b. it is within
2. The day will be longed for (v.22)
3. The day is unknown; it is coming suddenly and
visibly (v.23-24)
4. The day cannot come until some things happen first
(v.25)
5. The day will be as the days of Noah and Lot: Men
will be occupied with normal, routine affairs (v.26-30)
a. The days of Noah
1) normal
affairs will be going on
2) suddenly,
unexpectedly, judgement will fall
b. The days of Lot
1) normal
affairs will be going on
2) suddenly,
unexpectedly, judgement will fall
c. The days of the Son of Man will be same: sudden,
unexpected
6. The day will be a day of urgency for all men
(v.31-33)
a. the urgency illust.
b. the doom of turning back illustrated
c. the one essential: total abandonment
7. The day will be a day of separation (v.34-35)
8. The day will be universal, worldwide (v. 37)
Thought: The kingdom of God refers to the Messianic kingdom which is
internal and external also. People cannot control the kingdom of God.
