WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME –B
Gospel: Luke 18:1-8: God will see justice done to his chosen who cry to him.
I Reading: 3Jn 5-8 : It is our duty to welcome men of this sort and contribute our
share to their work for the truth.
The Parable of the Unjust Judge: The Secret of
Prayer-Persistence, Lk 18:1-8
The
secret to prayer is persistence. This is the great lesson Jesus taught in this
passage.

The great duty to persevere in prayer (v.1)

The Parable of persevering prayer (v.2-5)

The unjust judge

The poor widow: was all alone and persecuted

The silence of the judge: he was hard and harsh

The point: the judge honoured her request because she committed to come

He waits and hears long with unbelievers: puts off justice for a while

God will quickly bring about justice

The great tragedy: in the last days few will persevere in prayer and faith
(v.8)
Thought: A believer is allowed to suffer in order to be a dynamic witness to
others and to become stronger and stronger in trusting and hoping in God (Rom
5:3-5). The presence and power of Jesus Christ is sufficient to help the
believer stand faithfully.
