SATURDAY- 18TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME –B

Gospel: Matthew 17:14-20: If you had faith, nothing would be impossible for you.

I Reading: Habakkuk 1:12-2:4: The upright man will live by his faithfulness.

The Powerless disciples: A Great Lesson on Faith and Power, Mt 16:14-21

This is an excellent study on power and faith. The points speak for themselves.

1.     Jesus after the transfiguration (v.14)

a.     Joined the crowd

b.    Was approached by a desperate man

2.     The tragedy of no power (v.15-16)

a.     A desperate need unmet

b.    A frantic disappointment

c.      An embarrassing situation

3.     The rebuke of no power

a.     His presence will not always be available

b.    His patience was limited

c.      His power broke the power of Satan

4.     The clear reason for power: Unbelief (19-20)

5.     The great power of faith promised (v.20)

Thought: An active faith can remove mountains (Heb 11:6). A faithless person cannot receive the blessing which he/she might have had and cannot do the works which he/she might have done.
