I Reading: Genesis 32:23-33: Your name shall be Israel, because you have been strong against God.

The Mission of the Messiah, Mt 9: 35-38

The mission of the Messiah was threefold (see outline Mt 4:12-17, 23).

1.    His Ministry: To minister (v.35)

a.    Method: went forth

b.    Place: everywhere

c.     Work: teaching, preaching and healing

d.    Message: the gospel of the kingdom

2.    His Compassion: To demonstrate compassion (v.36)

a.    Crowds harassed: weary and bewildered

b.    Crowds helpless

c.     Crowds as sheep without a shepherd

3.    His Vision: To call men to the greatest of all visions (v.37-38)

a.    A great harvest

b.    A great need for labourers

c.     A great need for prayer

d.    A great force of labourers

Thought: We need prayer, great concern and compassion for the poor, commitment, dedication, faith, conviction and love for Christ in the mission of Jesus Christ.
